Justin Litterelle has been a marketing executive for more than 10 years. The Director of Cultural Programming for Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, he develops programming and provides customers with high-quality experiences. Justin Litterelle began gaining experience while studying for his bachelor’s degree at the Wharton School by volunteering at the Penn Center for Rehabilitation and Care where he interacted with senior citizens and organized various events.
A 124-bed skilled nursing facility, the Penn Center for Rehabilitation and Care (PCRC) provides short and long-term care to the geriatric community. The facility is located in the mixed-use structure formerly known as the New Ralston House, and it employs social workers, nurses, dietitians, a recreation therapist, and occupational, speech, and physical therapists.
Individuals are placed at PCRC based on various conditions. Nursing home placements must need functional, psychological, or medical care. Meanwhile, acute hospitalization requirements include individuals’ level of aggressiveness and nursing home capabilities. While at PCRC, individuals can receive treatment for such disorders and issues as malnutrition, neuropsychiatric disturbances, and endocrinologic disorders.
In addition to the services it offers, PCRC provides family medicine and internal medicine professional residents with the chance to complete an outpatient geriatric rotation. By working at the facility, students learn about the skills needed to admit and readmit patients, develop a solid understand of various nursing home issues, and learn to appreciate the complexities of long-term care.
